ADAMS Model of a Linear Positioning System, Including Rail Flexibility

An ADAMS model was created of a linear positioning system which serves to move a high-speed camera to desired positions along an aluminum rail. ADAMS beam elements were utilized to account for the structural flexibility of the rail, since the bending and twisting of the rail was considered significant to the overall dynamic behavior of the imaging system.

The ADAMS model was used to determine the loads on the drive system, the motor torque requirements, and the motion of the focal point as the camera was moved quickly from one position to another.
