Structural Analysis of the Hubble
Space Telescope
JAR performed a wide variety of FEA structural
analyses in support of the Space Telescope design effort for Perkin Elmer Corp.
Analyses included studies of crack growth in the primary mirror due to inclusions
in the honeycomb structure, adhesion integrity for various
configurations of bonded composite joints, structural analysis of
several scientific instrument housings, including the fixed head star
trackers, remote sensing units, and the flight support mount focal plane
sensor.
In addition, JAR provided exhaustive analyses of the support
structures used in the fabrication of the Space Telescope, including the
tool ring and the assembly dolly.
